Abstract
In the last years, novel, cheap, and non-invasive methods to determine body composition have been developed. Besides measurement of skin-fold thickness (caliper), bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and infrared reflection measurement are available now. The methods have specific advantages and disadvantages. For clinical and scientific purposes BIA is the method of choice, even clinical and scientific purposes BIA is the method of choice, even if the fat content determined is significantly higher compared to caliper and IR. The latter are preferred in the fitness range and for health education as the test persons need not observe certain restrictions.
