Abstract
The immission load of the heavy metals Pb and Cd in an agricultural area of 16 km2 were studied. The investigations were carried out by active monitoring with grass culture and by passive monitoring with leaves of sugar beet. The experimental findings confirmed the existence of a source of Pb emmission. A distinct increase in the contamination by Pb was observed in the course of the vegetation period. The Pb accumulation was higher at 1.5 m than at the exposition height of 0.30 m. The average Pb-value of the whole control area was similar for Lolium and beet leaves at the exposition height 1.5 m. The limit value of 40 ppm Pb was exceeded in a few cases only. There were small differences in the Cd content of the plant samples from the total region monitored. The presence of a source of Cd emission could be excluded. Not only producers but also consumers and destruents showed an accumulation of Pb which demonstrated an organ-specific-distribution-pattern for the analyzed mammals.
