Abstract
In 1935 the dominant species of algae in the River Eder belonged to the oligosaprobic grade, especially in the upper course, less in the middle course. In 1977 only minor deterioration of the water quality was observed, but considerable change occurred in the spectrum of algae with a remarkable reduction of the number of species and a decrease of diversity.
