Abstract
The data of a cross-sectional survey (10) concerning the nutritional status of children and a questionnaire concerning their mother''s nutrition knowledge were examined to assess whether nutrition knowledge has to be considered a significant determinant in the genesis of malnutrition. No strong relationship between these 2 variables was evident. In general, boys showed a better nutritional status than did girls, but among siblings the differences in nutritional status were negligible. Intrafamilar factors evidently determined the nutritional status more than nutrition knowledge; the responsible factors appear to be mainly socio-economic in nature.
