Abstract
The first lanthanide tricyanohydridoborates have been synthesized from anhydrous lanthanide chlorides and the oxonium salt (H3O)[BH(CN)(3)]. Thereby, the three-dimensional, homoleptic coordination polymers (3)[Ln{BH(CN)(3)}(3)] (Ln = Eu, Tb) could be obtained in solvothermal reactions upon complete substitution of the chloride anions by [BH(CN)(3)](-) anions. Both products exhibit intense and characteristic photoluminescence in the visible region through lanthanide-specific 4f-4f transitions with long luminescence decay times typical for the respective lanthanide ions. [BH(CN)(3)](-) proves to be a suitable linker for new lanthanide coordination polymers.
