The aim of this research is to evaluate the adequate level of protein intake and to assess the factors influencing protein intake amongst the rural farm households in Sudan. General structured and food recall questionnaires were used to collect the primary data from 200 farm households in the traditional agricultural sector of Sudan. The actual level of protein intake was assessed using food composition tables for Sudan and Africa. The requirement level of protein intake was evaluated for all household members using the RDA and AIs presented by Food and Nutrition Board (FNB). Moreover, the determinant factors of the adequate protein intake were analyzed using binary logistic model. The results expose that 34% of the farm household have inadequate level of protein intake. The outcome of the logistic model revealed that an increase in total household income probably leads to an increase in adequate level of protein intake. Household size and age of the head of the household had a negative impact on the adequate levels of protein intake at level p<0.01 and p<0.05 respectively. The research suggests that increasing household's income as well as to launching a major nutrition program so as to encourage the proper consumption of protein foods in the rural area.
